About the brand

MBK – Danish bicycle quality with French roots

At ReRide, we take pride in restoring and upgrading quality bicycles, and MBK is a brand we often work on. Although MBK may not be as well known as some of the very biggest bicycle brands, it has a fascinating history combining French innovation and Danish bicycle craftsmanship.

MBK originally began as the French bicycle brand Motobécane in 1923 and quickly became one of the leading manufacturers of both bicycles and mopeds in France. In the 1980s, the company became part of the Japanese motorcycle giant Yamaha, and the name was changed to MBK. Today, MBK is an integral part of the Danish bicycle market through HF Christiansen, which is based in Randers and is one of the world’s oldest bicycle companies. HF Christiansen is also behind several other well-known bicycle brands, but MBK is one of the most popular brands in Denmark, and a brand we are very fond of at ReRide because the quality is so good that we can build modern, beautiful bicycles from the old parts of the older bicycles.

The craft

Prepared at the workshop in Valby.

Every bicycle is dismantled, inspected and rebuilt. We replace worn parts, adjust gears and brakes and test-ride it before putting it up for sale.

Frequently asked questions

Which MBK bicycle should you choose?

MBK is known for making versatile bicycles that are perfectly suited to both city riding and longer trips. They have models for both men and women, but their women’s bicycles are particularly popular in Denmark. MBK’s bicycles are designed for comfort and functionality, making them an obvious choice for those seeking a solid, stylish everyday bicycle.

Among the most sought-after models are MBK’s urban women’s bicycles, which combine minimalist design with a highly enjoyable ride. Most models have hub gears requiring minimal maintenance, along with robust mudguards and a luggage rack, making them perfect for commuting in major cities such as Copenhagen, Aarhus and Odense, as well as the rest of the country.

MBK also offers sports bicycles and city bikes that are light and fast, making them ideal if you want a more dynamic cycling experience. MBK also has a strong focus on electric bicycles that make it easier to get around quickly and effortlessly, whether you are going to work and want to avoid sweating on your bicycle ride or want to use one instead of a car.

ReRide converts quality bicycles

At ReRide, we have extensive experience in restoring and converting MBK bicycles so that they retain their classic design while receiving modern improvements. A used MBK is often a solid starting point for a custom-built bicycle, where we can upgrade components, change gearing systems and add personal details that precisely suit your style and needs.
