About the brand
Frames made for rebuilding.
Nishiki became widely known for sporting steel bicycles with comfortable geometry.
These frames are popular with us because they work both in their original style and as a starting point for a city café racer.

Nishiki
Nishiki is a familiar name to many people interested in classic road bicycles and Japanese bicycles from the 1970s and 1980s. The brand’s history is more complex than most. The Nishiki name became truly well known internationally through the American distributor West Coast Cycle, which worked with the Japanese manufacturer Kawamura Cycle in Kobe.
The first bicycles were sold under the name American Eagle, but the name was later changed to Nishiki to reflect the bicycles’ Japanese origins more clearly. Many of the classic Nishiki frames were produced at Kawamura, while some production was later moved to Giant in Taiwan.
The result was a series of bicycles that combined Japanese precision with a more international approach to design and equipment. Nishiki became particularly visible during the bicycle boom of the 1970s and 1980s, when Japanese manufacturers really began to compete with the established European and American bicycle brands.
Classic Nishiki bicycles with clean lines
It is particularly Nishiki’s older steel bicycles that make the brand interesting today. Many of them have slender tubes, classic joints and geometry that gives them a simple, elegant appearance.
While some vintage bicycles are mainly interesting as collectors’ items, many Nishiki bicycles are still highly usable. The classic steel frames can provide a comfortable, lively riding experience, and their relatively simple construction makes them ideal for both sympathetic restoration and more personal conversions.
Nishiki as a classic road bicycle
A well-preserved Nishiki road bicycle can be a good choice if you want a light, elegant bicycle with an authentic vintage look. Models such as Road Master, Olympic Royal and Trim Master represent different parts of the brand’s history and show how Nishiki worked with both everyday models and more sports-oriented bicycles.
Nishiki as a city bike or café racer
An older Nishiki frame does not necessarily have to end up as a classic road bicycle. With different handlebars, more comfortable tyres and adjusted gearing, the frame can form the basis of a personal city bike or café racer. This allows the bicycle’s original lines to be preserved while making it more usable in the city.
A vintage Nishiki deserves another ride on the road
At ReRide, we have, among other things, had a refurbished Nishiki Trim Master from 1984 with Shimano 600 components in the shop. It is a good example of why we like the brand: classic style, good components and a riding experience that still works several decades after the bicycle was built.
When we work on a Nishiki bicycle, we take the individual bicycle as our starting point. If it is well preserved and original, we try to preserve its history as far as possible. If the frame is good but the components are worn or impractical, we can update the bicycle without losing its distinctive character.
